By investing in the PHP Foundation, team.blue will help accelerate innovation, strengthen security, and support the global PHP ecosystem, contributing directly to the maintenance, evolution, and future readiness of the language. This sponsorship reinforces team.blue's dedication to supporting the open-source technologies that underpin its products and to giving back to the communities that form the backbone of its ecosystem.

PHP powers nearly 75% of all websites globally and is deeply embedded across the team.blue ecosystem, underpinning shared hosting platforms and managed WordPress offerings at brands including Combell, Register.it and TransIP. It is also a core technology within several SaaS products built in PHP, supporting key application logic, integrations, and feature delivery. Beyond customer-facing products, PHP enables internal platforms and business systems that drive efficient operations across the Group. Its stability, performance and extensive ecosystem provide a scalable foundation for developing and deploying AI-powered capabilities and intelligent user journeys. As a result, PHP remains a critical enabler of the reliable, innovative digital solutions that help more than 3.3 million European SMBs succeed online.

Founded in 2021, the PHP Foundation has rapidly accelerated its impact on maintaining the language core. In 2024 alone, Foundation-sponsored contributors delivered nearly 2,000 commits and 1,300 code reviews to PHP core, and introduced 13 RFC proposals shaping the language’s evolution. Recent milestones include the first security audit of PHP core in over a decade, the release of PIE (PHP Installer for Extensions), the integration of FrankenPHP into the official PHP organisation in 2025, and a strategic collaboration with Anthropic and Symfony to create the official PHP SDK for the Model Context Protocol, positioning PHP as a first-class language for AI development.

About the PHP Foundation

The PHP Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the long-term sustainability and prosperity of the PHP language. Launched in 2021, it brings together organizations and individuals who rely on PHP and want to keep it stable, secure, and steadily moving forward.

The Foundation’s core work is funding engineers to maintain and advance PHP. Today, the Foundation contracts 11 full-time and part-time core developers working directly on PHP and its extensions, supported by a structured governance model: a Board of Directors, an Advisory Board, and an Executive Director overseeing day-to-day operations.

Foundation-funded developers deliver a substantial share of PHP core work, including support for security releases and release maintenance. In 2025, the Foundation partnered with Anthropic’s MCP team and the Symfony team to bring the official PHP SDK for MCP. Also in 2025, the Foundation received investment from the German government-backed Sovereign Tech Agency to modernize and improve the security and reliability of PHP’s streams layer.
